To Toss or Not to Toss... That may not be the only question

The origin of the tossing bouquet is up for grabs. England grabs it. Germany snatches it. Although the truth is unknown, every bride knows the tradition. Catch the wedding bouquet, and you'll be the next to wed.

Modern brides are pitching their own versions of the tossing bouquet. Whether you're the pitcher or the catcher, you'll be interested in these ideas.

Have your DJ or band play a special song like Clint Black and Lisa Hartmann Black's "When I Said I Do." After you and your new husband dance, ask all of the married or long committed couples to join you on the dance floor. Have the DJ ask who has been married five years? Ten? Fifteen? As he goes higher and higher up the anniversary ladder, eliminate couples until the couple married the longest remains on the dance floor. Gift that lovely wedded couple with your tossing bouquet or a special gift.

A Wedding Drop - For those who really want to stretch the boundaries of tradition.  If you are adventurous types, find those green tiny military figures with parachutes. Fill the parachutes with wrapped candies. Toss them to guests. Drop them from the ceiling, the balcony, the rafters!

Hide the Bouquet - "Plant" your tossing bouquet in a well-hidden, but locatable place. Announce to the single ladies that they must find the bouquet! Sweeten the moment by attaching a $20!

Break-Away Bouquet - This is my personal favorite. Elegance On The Avenue has just started making these for brides. Tie the bundle of flowers into several smaller bundles before assembling it into one with a ribbon. You untie the ribbon before tossing and then more than one girl gets to share in the tradition!

What ideas do you have for a non-traditional bouquet toss?

Inquiring minds want to know.
